Today…that changes.

So yesterday I went to lunch with the beautiful Mrs. Jeley at a great local eatery called 5th and Wine. They have fantastic food, and a great wine list (before 6pm all glasses are $5). Their wine list changes frequently, so there is always something new to try.

Yesterday I ordered a glass of Rockus Bockus. The menu said it was a Red Blend from Sonoma, and it was situated in the area that had Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc…so I just sort of assumed it would be a blend with some Bordeaux varietals.

Boy was I pleasantly surprised. While waiting for my sandwich and glass of wine to arrive I decided to look the Rockus Bockus up on my phone. It turns out that this is a wine that has been created by Jeff Bundschu who most people that enjoy California red wines will recognize. The “Bockus” part of the name is a play on the name of the Roman God of Wine, Bacchus.

The wine itself is a blend of Cab Sauv, Zin, Syrah, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot….very strange blend, but WTF? It Works!!!.

If you get a chance, check it out. I highly recommend it. I am not sure what wine stores you may find it at. But I know you can get it at 5th and Wine.

I will send (possibly even hand deliver) a random bottle of wine from my wine collection every month for one full year, to the person or family that sponsors me to go to the 2011 Chicago Baconfest. I need only airfare, hotel, and entry fee covered. I of course will strive to return with the greatest in bacon wares to share with my friends. I would also be willing to take a video camera to record the awesomeness that is Baconfest.

As a bonus, if I receive full sponsorship from one person/family I would wear a shirt/hat/other representing their favorite sports team/college while at Baconfest.
